"The best color in the whole world is the one that looks good, on you!" - Coco Chanel Every spring, magazines direct us readers to shop for colour! And for 2009 colour has reached a punchy crescendo. Juicy orange, acid greens, bright yellows and poppy pinks can be seen everywhere on the runways (Lacroix, Matthew Williamson, Carolina Herrera). But is colour really for everyone? On our style mission, Afiya and I shopped the stores at Vaughan Mills for a wide selection of brights to show you how easy it is to wear colour. If all-over bright colour intimidates you, consider adding splashes, especially close to your face. A pashmina or lightweight scarf is always a great option and STYLESENSE had so many options for us to choose from! My grandmother (and style goddess) always told me a bright handbag worn with a simple neutral outfit, not only says confidence but also gives off an aura of timeless sophistication – just think of Audrey Hepburn. If you are bold, like me, and prefer wearing head-to-toe colour, be sure to bring in a different shade for your purses and jewellery. We found so many cute, ultra chic and neutral purses at STYLESENSE. Figure out what colours work best for you by placing the fabric close to your face...does it brighten your complexion? A flattering shade should always make you look fresh and healthy. |
Although my closet is filled with black, grey and cream – I really do love to wear colour, particularly in the spring and summer. I guess after the long and dark winter months it feels right to brighten up your wardrobe along with budding flowers and plants. This season, magazines were packed with all of the juicy colours of the rainbow. In fact, In Style magazine actually went so far as to dedicate an entire issue to bright colours. The potential dilemma for the trend conscious, is investing in colours that you may be sick of by next season. If coral is all the rage now, does that mean that you'll feel "so last year" wearing it next summer? My advice: throw caution to the wind. If you love a particular colour and it suits you, who cares if it's not in season next year. In fact, it's my opinion that the most stylish fashion mavens are those who disregard the rules. Having said that, if you prefer to be on-trend and au-courant, I suggest that you indulge in colour by amping up your wardrobe with inexpensive accessories from places like Banana Republic Factory Store (which is where we also found a gorgeous popsicle-orange A-line jacket). It's an easy way to add a real pop of colour without sacrificing grocery money – and come next year, it won't be as painful if you're no longer loving that particular shade. |
