The spring/summer wedding season is around the corner, so many of you are already thinking – what to wear, what to wear?? With guests often having several events to attend, all with varied wedding themes (garden party, cocktail, formal), finding an outfit or two that will take you through the season can seem almost impossible.

Of course, Afiya and I really believe that no fashion challenge is impossible, so we set out, bright and early, to find a perfect wedding outfit to take you from day to night in comfort, class and style. I always tend to pick more semi formal options as you get way more longevity. At Vaughan Mills both French Connection UK and Miss Sixty have great selection in dresses that are right on trend and ideal for a wedding. With metallic shades being so popular this season, a shimmery option was our top pick.

When shopping for a multi-purpose wedding style, here are a few key points to remember:

  • Shop for a dress that can be enhanced with accessories and a great pair of heels, or dressed down when going casual.
  • Buy tons of accessories to play with – THIS IS SO KEY!! When you want to change the look of a dress and wear it multiple times, using a variety of accessories is the way to go. (My fav accessory spot in Vaughan Mills: Liz Claiborne!)
  • Great cover ups – for cool nights and church. A classy, soft, not overly structured blazer, cardigan or wrap will help make a night dress suitable for daywear or garden wedding.
  • Shoes! Of course! Just like accessories, by swapping heel heights or styles (stiletto for night, wedge for day) the overall feel of a 'wedding look' can be dramatically changed. (check out Nine West Outlet for some great options)

If you follow these guidelines, I promise you'll be the best dressed at the wedding – well next to the bride of course!

Ah, the hallmarks of summer: sunshine, barbeques, cottages and, of course, weddings.

Dressing for weddings can be particularly tricky if you've got more than one to attend this season and each event calls for a different dress code.

While I'm not sure that the newlyweds would appreciate the aesthetic effort should you choose to buy a new outfit over a wedding gift, you don't necessarily have to pick one over the other. The solution? Investing in one dress that, with a few accessories, can take you from day to night, outdoor to indoor, church to reception hall.

Does such a magical dress exist? Well it's not as difficult as you may think. What you're looking for is something with enough detailing, such as pattern, colour and embellishment, to be interesting on it's own but that can also be easily dressed down with the addition of a cardigan and change of shoes.

I think that we found such a dress at French Connection UK; a classic cream coloured shift covered in crystal gems. Paired with strappy heels, the dress makes quite a statement and is an ideal evening choice. The same dress when topped with a cream cardigan, larger bag and flats suddenly becomes appropriate attire for a church ceremony.

With a couple of purchases your entire summer wedding wardrobe is covered without breaking the bank. Ta-da!
