While I spend a good portion of my time obsessing over my wardrobe – what to wear to events, meetings, dinner parties – I seem to have always skipped my styling skills when it comes to my workout wardrobe. For the last 15 years, my fitness gear has consisted of old t-shirts (often is a state of disrepair) and baggy sweatpants (castoffs). I thought, who cares what I look like, I'm just working out... right?

WRONG! It took my hunky, Aussie trainer Josh to point out how my horrid workout wardrobe affects my exercise regime. My styling assistant, Jeska, agreed with Josh and suggested I revamp my lack of stylish exercise gear. Jeska thought if I looked good, I might feel better about working out altogether... and she wouldn't have to call Josh and cancel my workouts when I wasn't "feeling it".

Knowing I needed to make a change, I headed to Vaughan Mills with Afiya and became my own style mission! We hit up hot sports gear shops like the adidas Outlet and Reebok Outlet and I found a treasure trove of cool workout outfits. I love the fact that many of my fave designers including Stella McCartney are now designing exercise clothing that looks as good in the gym, as it does on the street! I selected a number of outfits and surprise, surprise – I feel so much more motivated to go to the gym and work out, because I know I actually look that much better. Now buying workout gear is a treat for me. I set goals in my fitness regimen and as I reach them, I head to Vaughan Mills and treat myself to new additions to my workout wardrobe.

Full disclosure: I hate the gym. Just thinking about it immediately brings to mind a host of go-to excuses to avoid going. Typically I'm a yoga fan and a brisk walker. But this year I had post-baby pounds to lose so I splurged on a trainer and baby-and-mom fitness classes and suddenly found myself at the dreaded gym.

With my newfound enthusiasm for working out (well, "enthusiasm" is pushing it), came the need for new fitness clothes. I can't say that cute outfits made the workouts any easier, but I admit that I did have a certain amount of pep in my step that wasn't there when I was wearing a pair of scraggly old sweats that I had found in the depths of my dresser.

I adore Stella McCartney's collection for adidas Outlet, and at the gym I tend to favour bold hits of bright colours that I wouldn't always wear in my regular wardrobe. But beyond style, proper fit and support are also important to keep in mind. A good shoe is crucial and why not let it do some of the work? We found a pair of EasyTone shoes at the Reebok Outlet that promise to improve muscle tone just by walking in them – sign me up!
