Nothing feels worse than feeling lumpy and bumpy in an outfit. I yo-yo in my size (it seems almost weekly) and despite (semi) regular workouts, I’ll never be described as a “slip of a thing”… Rather than get down and feel bad about myself, I decided to take a look at my wardrobe and figure out what outfits make me feel good and why. I mean lets face it, when you feel svelte, you feel confident. I’ve put together a few tips that will dress anyone 10 pounds lighter, so we can all enjoy our holidays, family and friends and put all that silly diet business on the shelf for a few weeks! 1. Choose shapely skirts. I love the elastic band skirts from BCBG, as they hide bumps and suck you in! 2. Slip on a long cardigan. Opt for a thin knit or cotton cardigan; this look will create a long vertical line visually stretching you out. 3. Try a scarf and straight-leg pants combo. Make sure the scarf is long and reaches at least the mid thigh region. This will create a clean, fluid long line. Carriere Studio always has a great selection of scarves. 4. Invest in a pair of nude pumps. These will instantly lengthen your leg. We found a great pair at XXI. 5. Dress up jeans with heels, height is always slimming. And tuck in your shirt! This makes your look polished and slim compared to a frumpy un-tucked shirt, a look that can actually add bulk. |
We all have those special items in our closet that we gravitate toward whenever we have a special occasion or want to put our best foot forward. But why wait for a special occasion? Everyday is an opportunity to feel great! I don't suggest that you break out the cocktail attire every time you get dressed, but there are certain elements that you can choose in your everyday wardrobe that will help you look 10 lbs lighter. Seriously! Here are some tips to keep in mind next time you're shopping: 1. Look for draping details which tend to hang nicely and are forgiving to a larger chest. 2. V necks are universally flattering for most body types. 3. Remember that shine highlights an area (sequins, satin, etc...), so choose pieces accordingly to draw attention to areas that you like. 4. Who cares what the label inside your clothes say? Pick pieces that fit - squeezing into a smaller size only serves to make you look bigger. Happy shopping!! |
